Review: Sheldon P .Louis 1996, ââ¬ËGay marriage ââ¬Å"Unnaturalâ⬠, USA Today, December 9th, 1996 At the time the article was first published, the push for legalizing gay unions was a controversial topic in the USA. The writer, ââ¬ËRev. Louis P. Sheldon was at the time, the chairman of the Traditional Values Coalition, a California-based organization of some 32,000 churchesââ¬â¢ (p. 1). He was obviously against the idea of accepting gay marriage and sustained that gay relationships are simply ââ¬Ëunnaturalââ¬â¢. Moreover, he stated that nearly 80% of Americans were opposing the legalization of marriage among gay people. Along with the author many people opposed to the idea at that time of his article ââ¬â But in despite of that, gay marriage was finally legalized in the United States in June 26, 2015 (Wikipedia 2001). Sheldon claims that ââ¬Ëhomosexual marriage is neither culturally nor physiologically possibleââ¬â¢ (p. 1). He sustains that ââ¬Ëwithout the cooperation of a third party, the homosexual marriage is a dead-end street - referring to the reproductive aspect of marriage (p. 1). He contradicted the argument that homosexual behaviour is related to genetic, hormonal or biological disorder. To abolish these views, the author mentions that ââ¬Ëno school of medicine, medical journal or professional organization has ever recognized such claims (p. 2) - at least at the time he wrote the article in 1994.
